Jay has a rare combination of technical and social savvy. He's comfortable talking database...
Since the early 1990s, Jay has been designing systems and websites that give people creative ways to connect with information, and with each other. He specializes in developing architectures for social interaction and collaboration, and in designing diverse information environments composed of many decentralized systems, devices and sites.
Jay's previous job titles include: digital librarian, web technologist, lead strategist, information architect, and knowledge consultant. He has recently co-written two chapters for the book, Real World Ajax: Secrets of the Masters. He holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Porter College at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Before I got into all of this information work, I had assorted jobs from which I learned many things. While working at a company that made products sporting rock band decals, I spent many days un-warping fluorescent pink frisbees (fresh off the boat), and then applying decals to them (Led Zeppelin frisbees, dude!).
The big lesson: staring at fluorescent pink objects all day makes it so that everything else looks very green!

...with developers, talking visual hierarchy with designers, and talking metrics with stakeholders. What I find most unique about Jay, though, is his ability to apply high-level strategic concepts all the way through the tiniest details. He has a remarkable brain—and he's a nice guy.
